Rainer L.C. Frost

  • Rainer Frost brings over 25 years of fund-raising and transactional experience as an entrepreneur, businessman and lawyer, working with companies, entrepreneurs, angels, venture capital firms and strategic industry partners.

    In 2000 Rainer founded Clarity Consulting Group of Seattle, WA to provide funding, strategy and management advice to early-stage and growth-stage companies, and opened the Boston office in 2003. Clarity worked closely with clients to prepare the management teams and their business plans for presentation to, and introduced them to, potential investors, including angel, venture capital and strategic investors.

    Rainer has provided strategic and funding consulting to dozens of companies in a broad range of industries that include:

    • Technology (biopharmaceutical, industrial and retail hardware; software, including enterprise and Software as a Service; cloud computing; e-commerce; location based services; social media and virtual communities; and gaming)

    Rainer has helped companies raise capital ranging from sub-$1 million in start-up funding to $37 million in growth capital from a range of angel investors and venture capital firms. A number of Rainer’s clients continue to operate as stand-alone businesses, while several have been acquired. Most recently, in December of 2011, BioSystem Development was acquired by Agilent Technologies.

    In addition to practicing business law at Choate, Hall & Stewart in Boston, Rainer has served as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for a $2B internet financial services company and as CEO of a Seattle database software company. He has served as Executive Director of Major Strategic Alliances and Vice President of Marketing for Allmerica Financial, and as Vice President of State Street Bank and Trust and Vice President of Fidelity Investments.

    Rainer received his Bachelors Degree from Vassar College, and his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Boston College Law School, where he served as author and editor of the Boston College Law Review, and has studied advanced negotiation and mediation at Harvard Law School. He has been a frequent speaker, panelist and judge at venues including the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp at TiECON East, the Invention to Venture Technology Workshops, Merrimac Valley Venture Forum, Babson Entrepreneurs Club, the SBA and U Mass Lowell National Small Business Conference, and the American Bar Association. Rainer also acts as an entrepreneurial mentor for students and faculty at the Tufts Graduate School of Engineering.

    Rainer lives in Lincoln, Massachusetts with his wife and follows the adventures of his four children. He has also served as a member of the Lincoln Finance Committee, as Liaison to the Lincoln School Committee, and as Deacon of his church. His favorite activities include hiking, cycling, Scrabble, woodworking, fly-fishing, and skiing.
